A federal appeals court in Washington has ruled men have no legal right to object to the name “Dykes on Bikes.”
The U.S. Court of Appeals rejected an appeal from California lawyer Michael McDermott, who said the name for a lesbian motorcycle club is “disparaging to men and is scandalous and immoral,” the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
McDermott had tried to challenge the U.S. Patent and Trademark office giving the club sole rights to the name “Dykes on Bikes.” The court said McDermott had no legal grounds to be offended, the Chronicle reported.
Because he is a man, McDermott cant be harmed by a groups decision to call itself “dykes,” the court wrote in a 3-0 decision, the newspaper reported.
