The Way the Ball Bounces…

By John Davis • Mar 16th, 2007 • Category: Northwest Cycle News Headlines

A 30-year-old University Place, WA man is suing the Tacoma School District and the Wilson High School Rams Booster Club for injuries resulting from an errant football that he claims caused him to crash his motorcycle.

Ronald Adjutant says that he was riding his 2000 Harley Davidson on Sixth Avenue in Tacoma when a football, thrown from the vicinity of a car wash being conducted by Wilson High School boosters, cheerleaders and football players, landed in the street. Adjutant attempted evasive maneuvers but the ball struck his front wheel and caused him to crash.

Adjutant’s attorney says, “He hit the ground awfully hard,” and suffered head and neck injuries that require on-going care. The attorney claims that Adjutant was saved from more serious injuries because he was wearing a helmet and leathers. They are suing the district and football supporters because they failed to properly supervise the cheerleaders and players.

The incident occurred in April of 2004 but negotiations with the school district broke down prompting the lawsuit. The suit seeks unspecified damages for “injuries both mental and physical” plus $4000 for damages to the motorcycle.
