More on the Insurance Issue
By John Davis • Sep 22nd, 2006 • Category: Northwest Cycle News HeadlinesConnie Thompson at KOMO News has produced a follow up piece on the mandatory insurance exemption for motorcycles (Insurance For Motorcycles? Your Turn to Weigh In).
The new piece includes feedback from motorcyclists and insurance company representatives.
The following is a part an e-mail statement from State Farm Insurance, whose representative is also an industry lobbyist that opposed motorcycle insurance legislation in Olympia last year.
“Mandatory liability insurance laws are rarely very effective, no matter how rigorously enforced (and many are not enforced at all). When insurance becomes compulsory, government involvement and costs to both governments and insurers increase; increased costs can be passed on to consumers and the driving public,” the statement read.
The results of the NorthwestCycleNews.com poll are so far indicating strong support for mandatory motorcycle insurance. If you are serious about getting the law changed, take Ms. Thompson’s advice and contact your stat legislator.
