Marblemount sits about half way up to Washington Pass on the North Cascades Highway, at just the right distance to stop for a bit, if you’re heading over or back. It’s a nice, friendly, low building with a small front door that leads to a good sized eating area. They even have a patio, for days when the sun shines. (Remember those?) The menu is generally ‘home food’, with a twist. Besides the usual beef, they serve buffalo, ostrich and some other more exotic meats, and they make a mean pie ala mode! I went with a group of eight and everyone had something different. Prices are in the $7 – $13 range, so it’s about what you’d expect to pay. The choices ran from burger baskets to lunch-sized steaks to salads to waffles, and everyone liked their meals. I went with the ostrich burger, just to be different. Ostrich is a red meat, like hamburger, but much leaner, with about the same taste. The sandwich was good-sized and it came with the ubiquitous fries and a drink. They also served up a fresh, crunchy dill pickle (Not a slice of one…a whole one) that hit the spot. The Buffalo Run has GOOD coffee, smart alecky waitresses and is definitely biker and family friendly! One caution: The parking lot is gravel, and a bit squishy, so look around for a rock to put under your kickstand. Or do what one of our group did. Grab a spare shoe out of your saddlebags and use it!
