An off-duty Washington County Sheriff’s detective died Tuesday while riding his motorcycle in rural Yamhill County when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
Randall Nunnenkamp was hit about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in a three-vehicle crash southwest of Gaston. Nunnenkamp died at the scene. Two other drivers were taken to area hospitals and are expected to survive, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.
Nunnenkamp investigated child-abuse cases since he became a detective in 2002. Nunnenkamp and his wife, Mary, educated teachers, clergy, and parents about sexual predator practices and child-abuse recognition. The Oregon Peace Officers Association recognized Nunnenkamp this year with an award for outstanding service in the investigation of crimes against children.
The crash remains under investigation.
