Two people were in critical condition Tuesday after the motorcycle they were riding crashed near the Roy Y on Highway 7, a Washington State Patrol spokesman said.
Witnesses told State Patrol investigators they spotted a 2006 Harley Davidson weaving in and out of traffic and driving fast on southbound Highway 7 about 6:50 p.m. before its driver, a 46-year-old man, lost control of the motorcycle near the Roy Y, said Trooper J.J. Gundermann. The motorcycle hit a guardrail, throwing its passenger, a 41-year-old woman, more than 80 feet, he said.
Medics took the man to Tacoma General Hospital and the woman to Madigan Army Medical Center. Both were in critical condition Tuesday night, Gundermann said.
Investigators believe alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the crash, he said.
The driver has been identified as Otto Holtz of Spanaway. The passenger was his wife, Sanda Holtz. Both were wearing non-DOT approved helmets according to investigators. Otto Holtz could face vehicular assault charges.
