Street racing led to the death of a motorcyclist Tuesday night in southeast Portland. Two motorcyclists were reportedly racing along Division between 122nd and 125th avenues.
Portland police say there are a handful of witnesses who saw the events that led up to this tragic wreck. They say a Suzuki and a Harley Davidson were stopped at the intersection of 122nd and Division when they started revving their engines and then gunned it.
The other rider was not involved in the collision and did not stop.
The motorcycle was described a Harley-Davidson with extended handlebars and blue, ground-effect lights.
Police say they hold the SUV driver blameless as the accident was a clear case of ’speed kills.’
The deceased motorcyclist has been identified as 33 year-old Scott A. Jones.
The other rider did not stop!?! WTF!?!

Mortocycle accident trends are clear and I’ve blog about them on http://nwhog.wordpress.com or see: http://nwhog.wordpress.com/2007/11/06/trying-to-ignore-that-crashing-sound/
One notable exception is in Washington State. Motorcycle fatality collisions have decreased as a result of troopers focused attention on motorcyclists who were driving under the influence, speeding and driving negligently. As of August 31, there were 43 deaths resulting from collisions involving motorcyclists. For the same time period last year, there were 61 deaths.
